History

In the late 1990s a group of friends found an interest in learning more about the Catholic faith. This common desire led them to discover things which modern religious education had failed to teach them, namely, devotion to Our Lady, her rosary, her sacramentals, and the importance of living a life of grace, avoiding sin, and the salvation of souls.

In 2002 they discovered the Latin Mass and soon thereafter found Bishop Robert F. McKenna, O.P. at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Monroe, CT. He instructed them in matters of the faith, the current crisis in the Church, and the errors of Vatican II. To maintain a focus on the spiritual life they founded St. Joseph’s House of Prayer in 2003. Bishop McKenna had monthly conferences with them and formed them into a new chapter of Third Order Dominicans, secular and regular, which began on Rosary Sunday, October 2, 2005.
After their profession on Rosary Sunday 2006 these young adults, mostly in their 20s, wanted to share their fervor and enthusiasm for the salvation of souls by promoting true Catholicism in the Boston area. After many prayers and a very long search, they found their home at Sacred Heart Church in 2007 and reopened the parish for exclusively all pre-Vatican II sacraments. They have worked with many independent priests over the years including a handful ordained before the changes of Vatican II.
In 2012 the Dominicans began working closely with His Excellency, Bishop Andres Morello from Argentina. He was the founder of the Company of Jesus and Mary which follow the rule and constitutions of the Jesuits. At the request of Bishop McKenna, Bishop Morello continued to care for the Dominicans and their spiritual needs. The late Bishop Morello devoted his life to the formation of seminarians and particularly those of the religious life. His community continues his mission today, not only in the United States but also in Argentina, France, and Mexico.

Young men who are discerning a religious vocation should consider the Company of Jesus and Mary as a means of sanctification for themselves and for the salvation of souls. You now have a new opportunity in the United States to follow in the ways of St. Ignatius in the Company of Jesus and Mary. We hope and pray that their good work will continue not only at Sacred Heart Church but in all their chapels throughout the world. For more information, please contact Fr.
